Autodesk HSM Premium includes a license of HSMWORKS for Solidworks, Inventor HSM, Inventor Professional and Fusion 360 software, providing you complete control over the CAD model.
Recent New Features
This stunning gem of a toolpath is really designed for easily deburring all of your parts. It automatically trims the toolpath to avoid model geometry above and below the edge you have selected to deburr. Gone are the days where you needed to use your calculator to nut out the distance you need to trim your toolpath so it doesn’t plough into your job. You HAVE to check this beauty out.
If you have text or special shapes designed into your part, then you can use the new engraving toolpath to mill it. This toolpath supports the use of a chamfer tool to machine into modelled shapes and features.
Additionally, with a few tricks & templates, this is your ticket to center line engraving ID numbers onto your components.
Define your probe as a tool in your tool library, then select a face to define a probing cycle. Very handy when you want to automate setting your work co-ordinate system on your machine without running the cycle independently. What about in process probing? Yeah, that’s possible too, drill then bore a hole, the reset your co-ordinate system to be based off of your newly machined feature. Any toolpaths following that will be run from that co-ordinate system increasing the overall accuracy of your components.
Autodesk HSM Premium features all the traditional turning toolpaths, including facing, roughing, grooving, threading, drilling and profiling. For drilling and hole making, choose between pre-programmed machining cycles and canned cycles, or use a combination of both. Inventor HSM supports programming twin-turret and twin-spindle lathes using all of the traditional turning operations. Mill/Turn operations are supported when combined with the 2D or 3D milling option.
AnyCAD with Autodesk Inventor is a CAD interoperability solution that removes or reduces the need to purchase and maintain multiple CAD systems for file exchange and support. AnyCAD supports most CAD file formats without the need for file translation, saving you valuable time and resources and avoiding costly errors. Keep your toolpaths up-to-date with notifications of design changes, and easily collaborate with all stakeholders, regardless of their 3D CAD tool.
Seamless Integration into Inventor
Autodesk HSM Premium provides a truly integrated CAM solution for Inventor users, allowing them to quickly get up to speed and become productive within minutes by using familiar tools and workflows. Seamless integration ensures full associativity between the design and toolpaths – design changes get instantly updated without any data loss.
Proven CAM Technology
Inventor HSM, just like all our Autodesk CAM solutions, is built on our next generation multi-core 64-bit CAM engine with support for distributed toolpath calculations, ensuring maximum performance. Innovative toolpath strategies like Adaptive Clearing help generate the most efficient toolpaths possible, resulting in reduced machining time, improved surface quality, minimal tool wear and extended machine life. Even the Post Processor system is designed to get programs to the shop floor more quickly by generating CNC code at speeds of hundreds of thousands of lines per second.
High Quality Finished Parts
Autodesk HSM Premium helps users create toolpaths for the best possible surface finish with flexible toolpath options and settings. In addition, included simulation tools help users verify the machining process before CNC programs are run on a machine. Highly customizable post-processors and a powerful CNC editor further enable users to tailor their programs to their CNC machine.
Autodesk HSM Premium utilizes the latest technologies including native 64-bit support for users of the 64-bit version of Inventor resulting in superior performance, especially when working on large or complex designs.
Autodesk HSM Premium is designed to take advantage of the latest workstation technologies including 4 – 24 core systems. Multi-processor/multicore support dramatically speeds generation of complex toolpaths and is beneficial not only when generating multiple operations or rebuilding complex parts after a design change, but also when generating a single toolpath.
Autodesk HSM Premium uses a Distributed CAM server that enables users to respond even faster to design changes, by automatically utilizing idle PCs on the local network to reduce toolpath calculation time. Distributed CAM is automatically used by Autodesk HSM Premium when installed on selected PCs and requires no additional setup or interaction from the user.
Best-in-class 3D toolpath strategies
Autodesk HSM Premium 3-axis toolpaths are optimized to reduce cycle time, improve surface quality and extend tool life. In addition to the traditional pocket clearing strategy, Autodesk HSM Premium features the innovative Adaptive Clearing strategy that typically reduces roughing time by 40% or more and increases the tool life by as much as a factor of 10 depending on the material hardness. Finish paths follow the part faces to create the final part shape. Many machining strategies are available to suite the part topology. Inventor HSM provides superior finish machining technologies that incorporate smooth/tangent lead in/out moves to keep the tool moving in a smooth motion, reducing machine wear and tool marks.

Tool information can be specified directly using the Inventor tool library or imported from 3rd party tool databases. Production documents, including a tool list, are automatically generated and can be exported in a number of different formats including HTML, XML, Excel and Word documents.
All 2D and 3D strategies support 3+2 machining (5-axis positioning) by rotating the part or the head of the machine tool through a combination of A, B, or C axis motions. Create 3+2 operations by simply selecting a work plane for the operation. Inventor HSM takes care of the rest by finding the most efficient rotations to orient the part. Once positioned, all machining strategies are available. Tools and holders are gouge protected for all strategies that normally support this feature.
